Unpacking Vocabulary

VSA Future Vocabular Program Slide

WHY VOCABULARY IS ESSENTIAL?

A rich vocabulary can enhance a student’s writing, communication skills, and ability to express ideas clearly. Their vocabulary helps them understand everything from word problems to graphic novels. Children need a strong vocabulary to succeed academically and beyond.

VSA VOCABULARY PROGRAM

Children who do not learn to read by 4th grade remain poor readers, according to research. VSA Future has created a scientific vocabulary program to help children learn vocabulary through reading. In small classes, students will learn word roots, prefixes, suffixes, and etymology to gain a holistic understanding of the English language. A variety of topics will be covered in each lesson.

In addition to spelling and definitions, vocabulary becomes alive and relevant to students’ lives. It teaches students how to use Greek and Latin roots to categorize unfamiliar words based on function and part of speech.

Writing Program

BRING VOCABULARY TO LIFE

Word roots help children learn new words, making vocabulary acquisition easier, faster, and more fun. Each unit includes guided group activities, independent practice, and homework assignments in sentence usage. Creative writing practice using new vocabulary makes each lesson a class to remember!

Through weekly discussions, students sharpen their critical reading skills in both literacy analysis and language processing.
